Re-opening soon!
Penticton's Dream Society is a new, member-managed, volunteer-powered, non-profit society whose mission is to bring live music to the South Okanagan. With its assistance, The Dream Cafe will soon be re-opening. If you love live music, please consider joining, volunteering, or donating.
The Dream continues...
With the help of donors, members, and volunteers, Penticton's newly founded Dream Society is bringing The Dream Cafe back to life. When it re-opens, The Dream Cafe will continue to host the very best Canadian and international artists. And it will do that in Canada's finest and most intimate venue. But the new Dream Cafe will be more than just a venue for touring musicians. It will also be an incubator of art and music, a place where artists, musicans, and their supporters can mix and mingle and develop their ideas and creations.
It will be different this time!
As is well known, previous iterations of The Dream Cafe struggled to pay their bills. But this time, things will be different. Consider the following:
- The new Dream Cafe will be operated by the non-profit Dream Society. Once the society's application for registered charity status with CRA is approved (6-9 months), The Dream Society will be able to issue tax receipts for the donations it receives. In the interim, the Community Foundation of the South Okanagan is accepting donations on its behalf. (Click here to donate.)
- The new Dream Cafe will be operated 100% by volunteers. Everyone involved, from the person greeting you at the door to the board chair, will be providing their time for free. (Click here to volunteer.)
- The new Dream Cafe will be funded and managed by its members. Membership dues will go a long way toward keeping it financially sustainable. Members' input will ensure that it always operates with the community's interests in mind. (Click here to become a member.)
If you still have doubts about the sustainability of the new Dream Cafe, you might want to check out Edmonton's Yardbird Suite. It's been operating in a similar manner since 1957. It's in good financial health and its revenues have only been increasing in recent years.
You'll want to volunteer
There are a lot of different ways you can volunteer with The Dream Society. Every time you volunteer, we'll take note of that and award you volunteer credits. Those credits will open all sorts of doors within The Dream Society. For example, if you don't have the money to buy a Platinum or Diamond membership, ten volunteer credits will get you a Gold membership (max 200). If a show is sold out, the people with the most volunteer credits will be at the top of the list should someone else be unable to go. And when you're volunteering, those with the most volunteer credits will be our first choices when staffing our shows.
Volunteers can also look forward to volunteer appreciation events and tickets. And if they use those credits to buy a membership, they can also look forward to attending members-only shows. So if it isn't obvious yet, you really should volunteer!
