Dave Gunning is a Canadian folk singer-songwriter born in Pictou County, Nova Scotia. He is a JUNO nominated folk singer-songwriter known for his heartfelt storytelling and East Coast roots. Gunning credits the first live concert he ever observed, a 1981 double bill of John Allan Cameron and Stan Rogers, to be a major driving force in shaping the direction his life would take as a musician. With fourteen albums to his credit, there's no denying Dave Gunning's impressive body of work. He has toured extensively across Canada and abroad and has earned multiple Canadian Folk Music Awards, a Juno nomination and ten East Coast Music Awards for his well-crafted work. The Nova Scotian folk musician has shared the stage with legends like Ron Hynes, Rita MacNeil, Stuart McLean, and Stompin' Tom Connors. On January 1, 2014, during the NHL Winter Classic "A Game Goin' On" was announced as the winner of the Hockey Night In Canada Song Quest, a collaboration with David Francey. Known for his abilities as a gracious storyteller, Gunning's knack for connecting with audiences precedes the skills and experience he's earned on the road. He's never shied away from tougher topics, staying true to the folk music tradition, and in recent years, those topics have tended to be more social and environmental in nature causes that he holds near and dear. Dave Gunning's warm voice, exceptional storytelling ability, and commitment to addressing important social issues through his music have made him one of Atlantic Canada's most respected and beloved folk artists.
