Daniel Tavis Romano, born in 1985 in Welland, Ontario, is one of Canada's most prolific and genre-defying musicians, known for his work as a solo artist, bandleader of Daniel Romano's Outfit, and member of various other projects including Attack in Black. Romano's music easily moves between psychedelic folk, traditional country, garage rock, punk under the name Ancient Shapes, and indie rock, demonstrating remarkable versatility and refusal to be confined by genre. His band The Outfit, featuring Carson McHone, Julianna Riolino, Roddy Rosetti, and Ian Ski Romano, has garnered a reputation as a powerhouse supergroup known for high-intensity live performances. Romano's 2011 album Sleep Beneath the Willow was longlisted for the Polaris Music Prize, as was his 2013 release Come Cry With Me. His 2015 album If I've Only One Time Askin' was nominated for a Juno Award for Adult Alternative Album of the Year. In 2021, The Outfit released Cobra Poems, a rock and roll masterclass that infused their signature sound with new swagger and grit. Romano became legendary in 2020 for releasing an unprecedented number of albums, cementing his reputation as one of Canada's most creatively fertile artists. His collaborations with Julie Doiron, Tamara Lindeman, and Frederick Squire, along with his solo work, showcase an artist committed to constant creative exploration.
