David Gogo was born on March 18, 1969 in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada, and received his first guitar at the age of five. At the age of 15, he met Stevie Ray Vaughan backstage at the Royal Theatre in Victoria, British Columbia and was encouraged by the blues legend to pursue a career in blues. By the age of 16, he was getting regular work as a musician. David Gogo has six JUNO Award nominations, has been named Guitarist Of The Year three times at the Maple Blues Awards, was named Musician Of The Year at the West Coast Music Awards, won Blues Recording Of The Year at the Western Canadian Music Awards, and received the Great Canadian Blues Award for his lifetime contribution to the blues in Canada as voted by the listeners of CBC's Saturday Night Blues. He has performed on stage with the likes of BB King, Johnny Winter, Albert Collins, Bo Diddley, and Otis Rush. He has been chosen to open shows for ZZ Top, George Thorogood, The Tragically Hip, Little Feat, Jimmie Vaughan, Robert Cray, Robin Trower and Wishbone Ash. Gogo's version of "Personal Jesus" earned him an award for Guitarist of the Year at the Maple Blues Awards for 2002, which was a blues-inspired rendition of the Depeche Mode song. He received a 2025 nomination for Blues Album of the Year for his electrifying new release, "YEAH!", released by Victoria-based indie label Cordova Bay Records. This marks David's seventh Juno nomination, further cementing his status as one of Canada's most enduring and acclaimed blues artists. David Gogo's fiery guitar work and deep respect for blues traditions have made him a cornerstone of Canadian blues music.
