Five Alarm Funk is a high-energy, horn-powered, percussion-fueled Vancouver-based funk band that has been burning up stages on four continents for over seventeen years. The eight-man ensemble was formed in 2003 when drummer Tayo Branston, guitarist Gabe Boothroyd, and bassist Neil Towers met at a Vancouver house party and discovered their mutual love of funk ranging from James Brown, Parliament-Funkadelic and Bootsy Collins to Tower of Power, Fela Kuti, and classic Latin jazz and ska. The band officially debuted at The Fairview Pub, where more than three hundred people showed up for their first performance, signaling the beginning of something special. Their music merges influences from Latin music, progressive rock, ska, Afrobeat, and more into a rooted funk sound that gets audiences dancing. With six studio albums and two Juno Award nominations under their belts, Five Alarm Funk has established themselves as one of Canada's premier live acts. Their horn section provides powerful melodic hooks and rhythmic punctuation while the rhythm section lays down irresistible grooves, creating an infectious sound that's equally at home at music festivals, clubs, and concert halls. The band's commitment to high-energy performance, tight musicianship, and pure funk fun has built them a devoted following across Canada and internationally. Their shows are celebrations of groove, demonstrating that funk's power to move bodies and lift spirits remains as strong as ever.
