About

Jennifer Castle is a critically acclaimed Canadian singer-songwriter based in Toronto, known for her distinctive voice, unconventional song structures, and deeply personal yet mysterious songwriting. Born in Toronto and raised in Mississauga and Orangeville, Castle spent time living in London, England, and Vancouver before returning to Toronto to launch her music career at open mic nights. She initially released two albums under the name Castlemusic: Live at the Music Gallery in 2006 and You Can't Take Anyone in 2008 on Toronto's Blue Fog Recordings before transitioning to releasing under her own name. Her 2014 album Pink City, released on Idee Fixe Records in Canada and No Quarter worldwide, was shortlisted for the 2015 Polaris Music Prize, bringing her wider recognition. She followed with Angels of Death in May 2018, Monarch Season in 2020, and Camelot in 2024, each showcasing her artistic evolution. Castle's music defies easy categorization, blending folk traditions with experimental approaches to melody and structure. Her unique vocal delivery, sometimes described as haunting or otherworldly, serves lyrics that explore existence, relationships, and the natural world with poetic abstraction. Beyond music, Castle works as a birth doula, finding purpose in supporting others through transformative life experiences. She has collaborated with numerous artists including Wyrd Visions, Eric Chenaux, Ryan Driver, Bry Webb, Doug Paisley, Constantines, and Fucked Up, demonstrating her versatility and respected position within Toronto's creative music community.
