Dàimh (pronounced "dive") is a folk band which performs in Scottish Gaelic. The name Dàimh is the Gaelic word for Connection, and perfectly describes the electrifying musical interplay between the individual band members and portrays the interaction with audiences attending their breath-taking live shows around the world. Formed over 20 years ago the band have embodied the current wave of resurgence in Gaelic culture; the current line up includes younger musicians that have progressed through the thriving Feisean movement and Gaelic medium education system and joined the 3 remaining founding members to continue the cycle of the tradition. Its members are Angus MacKenzie (whistle/bagpipes), Gabe McVarish (fiddle), Ellen MacDonald (voice/bagpipes), Murdo Cameron (mandolin/accordion) and Ross Martin (guitar). The band members have diverse backgrounds Angus MacKenzie is from Mabou, Nova Scotia, on Cape Breton Island; Gabe McVarish is from California; Ross Martin is from Arisaig; Griogair Labhruidh is from Balloch; and Murdo Cameron from Glenelg. Recent achievements include receiving the MG ALBA Folk Band of the Year Award in 2015 and 2018 and passing the halfway mark on their career ambition of performing on every populated Scottish Island. Though based in Scotland, Dàimh has strong connections to Canada through band member Angus MacKenzie's Cape Breton roots, and they have toured extensively in Canada, performing at Celtic festivals and venues across the country. Their powerful performances, masterful musicianship, and commitment to preserving and promoting Gaelic language and culture have made them one of the premier Celtic bands performing today.
