Kenny Blues Boss Wayne, born Kenneth Wayne Spruell on November 13, 1944, in Spokane, Washington, is an American blues, boogie-woogie, and jazz pianist, singer, and songwriter who has become a venerable figure in the Canadian blues community. Raised in New Orleans, Los Angeles, and San Francisco, Wayne started playing piano at age 13 and has been performing for over 50 years. His musical journey began with gospel music, as his father was a preacher, while his mother's influence led him to be inspired by Nat King Cole, Little Willie John, and Fats Domino. In the 1980s, Wayne relocated to Vancouver, British Columbia, becoming one of the beacons of the Canadian blues scene. He currently resides in Burlington, Ontario. Over the years, he has performed with and shared the stage with influential blues and rock pioneers including Jimmy Reed, Pinetop Perkins, Johnnie Johnson, Big Joe Duskin, and Joe Louis Walker, as well as rock and soul artists including Ike Turner, members of Sly and the Family Stone, Delaney and Bonnie, and members of Santana and the Doobie Brothers. Wayne won a Juno Award for his 2006 release Let It Loose and has received numerous accolades including the 2024 Pinetop Perkins Piano Player of the Year from the Blues Music Award, the 2023 Bobby Blue Bland Lifetime Achievement Award, and the 2024 Most Outstanding Musician Keyboard from Living Blues Awards Critics' Poll. Regarded as one of North America's leading boogie-woogie pianists, Kenny Blues Boss Wayne continues to thrill audiences with his masterful playing and authentic blues spirit.
