About

JW Jones, born July 15, 1980, is a Canadian blues guitarist, singer, songwriter, and bandleader from Ottawa, Ontario, whose high-energy performances and exceptional guitar work have made him one of Canada's top blues artists. Born into a musical family, Jones began playing drums as a 12-year-old before switching to guitar after seeing his first B.B. King concert. As a student at Ridgemont High School in Ottawa, he won the 1998 R&R Concerts Battle of the Bands at age 18. The JW Jones Blues Band was formed in 1998 when Jones and his high school friends, all passionate about blues, recorded a six-track demo that got them bookings at clubs and festivals across Canada. Jones is a Juno Award nominee for 2015, a Billboard magazine Top 10 Selling artist, and winner of the International Blues Challenge Best Self-Produced CD Award for his release High Temperature in 2017, as well as Best Guitarist in 2020. The Globe and Mail referred to Jones as one of this country's top blues guitar stars, and US Blues Revue magazine stated that Jones' style is a fluid amalgam of T-Bone Walker's big bright chords, Johnny Guitar Watson's slashing leads, and Clarence Gatemouth Brown's jazzy sting. The JW Jones Trio currently features Will Laurin on drums and Jacob Clarke on electric and upright bass. Having performed at blues festivals, theatres, and clubs in Canada, the USA, Europe, the United Kingdom, Russia, Australia, and Brazil, JW Jones continues to bring authentic, electrifying blues to audiences around the world.
