About

Mike Farris is a Grammy, Americana Association, and Dove Music award-winning soul gospel singer who has reinvented himself from his days as the frontman of 1990s blues-rockers Screamin' Cheetah Wheelies into one of gospel music's most powerful voices. Farris grew up in Franklin County, Tennessee, and struggled with drug addiction and alcoholism from age 15, running cocaine over state lines and spending time in and out of jail. Following in the footsteps of his absentee father, he left home at a young age, leaving behind his mother and four brothers, ending up living in a park in Knoxville, Tennessee. After Screamin' Cheetah Wheelies broke up, Farris sang with SCW, Peaceful Knievel, and for a time fronted Double Trouble, the backing band for Stevie Ray Vaughan. Farris became a practicing Christian and rejected drugs and alcohol, releasing his first solo album Goodnight Sun in 2002, just four years before winning his Grammy. On February 8, 2015, Farris won the 2014 Grammy Award for Best Roots Gospel Album for Shine for All the People. With six solo albums since 2001, Farris has the energy and conviction of a man saved, a stack of anecdotes and life experiences that would make most people's heads spin, and a soulful vocal delivery reminiscent of Sam Cooke or Otis Redding. Now sober for over 15 years, Farris uses his powerful voice and testimony to inspire and uplift audiences, proving that redemption and transformation are possible through faith, determination, and the healing power of music.
