Kentucky Eileen is a touring folk quartet hailing from Kelowna, British Columbia, that has been hypnotizing crowds with their signature blend of folk with a country twist since forming in 2019. Born out of the orchards of the Okanagan and laser-focused on their Nashville-style sound, they bring a modern Canadian flavor to American folk music. The folk quartet is comprised of longtime established musicians: violinist and vocalist Mitchell Howanyk, Sam Balson who plays the mandolin, electric guitar, and sings, Josh Smith who sings and plays guitar, banjo, and ukulele, and Dan Tait on vocals and guitar. The individual members bring impressive credentials, with Joshua Smith from The Trips, Dan Tait from Tiger Moon, Sam Balson from Dope Folk and The Stone Sparrows, and Mitch Howanyk from Wild Son. Sonically akin to The Band, Roger Miller, and The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Kentucky Eileen focuses on meaningful songwriting and connection with audiences, creating music that honors traditional American and Canadian folk while bringing contemporary energy and perspective. Beginning in 2022, Kentucky Eileen embarked on a 26-date national tour, showcasing their tight harmonies, exceptional musicianship, and engaging stage presence. With new music released in June 2022 and their optimistic outlook that music is back after the pandemic, Kentucky Eileen represents the vibrant spirit of Okanagan Valley folk music and the enduring appeal of well-crafted, heartfelt songs performed by musicians who love what they do.
