About

Reuben and The Dark are a Canadian indie folk band from Calgary led by singer and songwriter Reuben Bullock, a Calgary-born, currently Victoria-based singer-songwriter, skateboarder, carpenter, and preacher's son whose career is marked by a series of milestones that underscore his profound impact on the Canadian music landscape over the last decade. The band, which also includes Sam Harrison (guitar/keys/vocals), Brock Geiger (guitar/keys/vocals), Nathan da Silva (bass/vocals), and Brendan Dino Soares (drums), formed in 2012 after frontman Reuben Bullock released solo albums. Their first proper album under the banner Reuben and the Dark, Funeral Sky, was released in May 2014 by iconic Canadian label Arts & Crafts. Across the last four full-length record release campaigns with Arts & Crafts, the band has been recognized with numerous awards and accolades including nominations for the JUNO Awards, Western Canadian Music Awards, and SOCAN Songwriting Prize. Their music has been featured in prominent TV shows including Handmaid's Tale, The Highwaymen, A Million Little Things, American Gods, Grey's Anatomy, and Ray Donovan. In recent years, the band collaborated with Bullhorn Singers, a Kainai band led by Iskotoah'ka William (Billy) Wadsworth, to release Powerful, a song about reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Canadians that was credited to Reuben and the Bullhorn Singers, showcasing their commitment to meaningful artistic collaboration and social consciousness.
