Magi Merlin (pronounced MADGE-eye) grew up in Saint-Lazare, Canada, and is now from Montreal Qc, Canada. Until she was six or seven, Magi Merlin thought her name was Kayla, but after complaining about it to her parents, she was told that Kayla was her middle name, and she started going by Magi (MADGE-eye). Her name has an interesting origin: her grandparents had a dream before she was born of a little girl wanting to be named after a star in the sky called 'Magi'. Magi Merlin is a Montreal-based alternative R&B and neo-soul musician. Drawing influences from 90's house, drum and bass, Motown and hip hop, her EP was praised by Bandcamp Daily, Complex, Nylon, CBC Music, The FADER and The Line of Best Fit. Her critically-acclaimed, audacious 2022 EP 'Gone Girl' came out, produced by her frequent collaborator Funkywhat. She won the category Rap/Hip Hop EP of the year for 'Gone Girl' at the GAMIQ (2022) and was nominated in the category Breakthrough artist of the year at the GAMIQ (2022). Magi Merlin has released a four-track EP titled 'A Weird Little Dog,' marking her first release since her 2022 EP 'Gone Girl,' which garnered attention from publications like Complex, Nylon, and CBC Music. Since releasing 'Gone Girl,' Merlin has performed at major Canadian festivals including Osheaga and Montreal Jazz Fest, and supported acts like Noga Erez and Omar Apollo. She also recently made her acting debut in Chandler Levack's film 'Mile End Kicks,' alongside 'Euphoria' star Barbie Ferreira.
