About

Sam Tudor is a Vancouver singer-songwriter who grew up in a forestry camp making music before relocating to the big city. Both an individual artist and a project involving a group of friends in Canada, his solo work is a highly collaborative vehicle for his expressive voice and plaintive lyrical style. The underpinnings of his songs are genre-less, with jazz players joining forces with Eno-inspired beats while acoustic guitars meet distorted synths. Tudor's singing and guitar are the anchors, but elements of jazz and electronic music swirl their way into his sound, creating new textures from moment to moment. His magnificent second album, Quotidian Dream, which he recorded and produced himself from the comfort of his room over an excessively long period of time, showcases his DIY aesthetic and commitment to artistic independence. When he was in high school, he was already fascinated by songwriting and recording, ingraining a DIY streak that remains strong today. Tudor's music is reminiscent of the gentle, whimsical soft rock released by Donovan and early Syd Barrett era Pink Floyd. With his ability to blend organic and electronic elements, literary lyrics, and willingness to follow his artistic vision wherever it leads, Sam Tudor represents a new generation of Vancouver artists pushing the boundaries of singer-songwriter music into experimental and electronic territories.
