About

Shaela Miller was born in Victoria, BC, but has spent most of her life in Lethbridge, Alberta, where she has been honing her songwriting skills for over ten years. She is described as one of the Canadian prairie underground's most respected independent artists and is a southern Alberta singer/songwriter whose music brings an alternative twist to her country style. Miller is seen as an ambassador to a new wave within country music, weaving vintage country sounds while drawing on classic country tones that recall Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, and Dolly Parton. When asked to describe her music, she replies simply: Honky Tonk, though her work also includes tear-in-your-beer ballads, dance hall shuffles, and dark alt-country noir. Her accomplishments include a 1st Place Project WILD finish, years of folk festival performances, and TV placements like HBO's True Blood. Her 2021 album, Big Hair Small City, touches on relatable themes of life. Her album After the Masquerade was produced by Graham Lessard and recorded at Studio Bell in Calgary's National Music Centre. Miller's sonic inspiration is rooted in the 1970's golden era of songwriting, with production focusing on colorful percussive detail, lush instrumental portraits, and locked-in rhythm sections while maintaining her strong songwriting and vocal style. With her distinctive voice, authentic country sensibilities, and commitment to preserving and evolving traditional honky-tonk music, Shaela Miller represents the best of contemporary Canadian country.
