Steve Marriner was born in 1984 in Ottawa, Ontario, and is a Canadian multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter and record producer based in Toronto. He first garnered attention in the Ottawa blues scene in his early teens as a prodigy blues harp (harmonica) player. Marriner began playing the harmonica at eleven years of age, first studying with Ottawa-based bluesman Larry 'The Bird' Mootham. In June 1999, at the age of fourteen, Marriner won the Ottawa Blues Harp Blow-Off, an annual battle of harmonica players held at The Rainbow Bistro. He also plays baritone guitar, electric guitar, piano, Hammond organ, upright bass and electric bass. Nicknamed The Swiss Army Knife for his multi-instrumental talents, he's a celebrated harmonica player, baritone guitarist, soulful vocalist and creative producer. Since 2008, he has been the frontman, singer, one of two guitarists and harmonica player for the Canadian rock'n'roll-blues group MonkeyJunk. As co-founder and frontman of the acclaimed blues-rock band MonkeyJunk, Steve has won two Juno Awards for Blues Album of the Year, and MonkeyJunk became the first Canadian band to win a Blues Music Award in Memphis. Marriner has repeatedly won Maple Blues Awards as Harmonica Player of the Year. In 2000, he began recording and touring with the JW-Jones Blues Band, and from 2004 until 2007 he toured with Harry Manx. Since 2015 he's been recording on Colin James's records and touring around the world in his band. With his extraordinary harmonica skills, versatile musicianship, and dynamic stage presence, Steve Marriner has established himself as one of Canada's most accomplished blues musicians.
