The Grapes of Wrath are a Canadian rock band formed in 1983, enjoying their greatest commercial success in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The band was formed in Kelowna, British Columbia, in 1983 by Chris Hooper, Tom Hooper and Kevin Kane. In the late summer of 1985, Nettwerk released their first album September Bowl Of Green, which dented college and alternative radio. This attention led to several record contract offers, with the band ultimately signing a worldwide deal with Capitol-EMI Records. The top 40 singles All The Things I Wasn't and What Was Going Through My Head received extensive video play and along with Juno Award nominations, propelled the album to platinum status. Their biggest hit singles, I Am Here (number 8 in Canada, number 27 on Billboard Modern Rock Tracks in the U.S.) and You May Be Right (number 7), again sold platinum. The group split in 1992, with Kane going solo while Jones and the Hoopers continued to record as Ginger. With the return of Chris Hooper for a festival appearance in 2010, the three founding members were back together and have continued to perform and record since. The album These Days received the 1992 CASBY Award for Favourite Album, and I Am Here won the CASBY for Best Song. Their hits You May Be Right and I Am Here garnered them the fan favourite band award at the first Much Music Video Awards. The band was inducted into the Western Canadian Music Hall Of Fame during BreakOut West in 2018, cementing their legacy as one of BC's most important rock bands.
