The Hillties are a Kootenay Award-winning 6-piece Funk/Ska/Reggae band based out of Nelson, BC. They are described as a funk and reggae band that places rich vocal harmonies over vivid grooves. The band won Kootenay Music Awards for Best Jam Band/Artist in 2019 and Best Reggae Song in 2018. Their instrumentation is quite unique, featuring chapman stick, electric ukulele/guitar, piano, lead guitar, drums, along with lead vocals and harmonies. The band members include Mark Barnard (lead vocal and keys), Phil Woodward (Chapman Stick and vocal), Craig Beauchamp (electric ukulele/guitar and vocal), Rahj Levinson (piano), Sam Mathews (lead guitar), and Eric Sasaki (drums). With their distinctive blend of funk, ska, and reggae influences, sophisticated harmonies, and unique instrumentation including the rare Chapman Stick, The Hillties bring a fresh sound to the Kootenay music scene. Their music is characterized by tight grooves, positive energy, and a commitment to musical excellence that has made them favorites at festivals and venues throughout British Columbia's interior.
