About

The Matinee is a rock and folk band from Vancouver, British Columbia. The band's story began when singer Matt Layzell and guitarist Matt Rose spent a few hazy days writing songs in a rustic cabin in Desolation Sound on British Columbia's Sunshine Coast. The band's four founding members are Layzell, Matt Rose (guitar, vocals), Geoff Petrie (guitar, vocals), and Peter Lemon (vocals, drums). The lineup has since expanded to include additional members. The band calls their style roots-rock with elements of alt-country, folk and rock, all tied together with a real rootsy feel. They're also described as Vancouver, Canada-based Americana. In 2013, the group signed to Light Organ Records and released its debut album, We Swore We'd See the Sunrise. Their first three albums saw them working with notable producers Steve Berlin, Steve Bays, and Jamie Candiloro. Their latest album is titled Change of Scene. The Matinée has evolved from its humble origins to become a powerhouse roots-rock band with a following spread across North America. With their blend of rock energy, folk sensibilities, and Americana influences, The Matinee represents the best of Vancouver's contemporary roots rock scene, delivering songs that are both radio-ready and authentically rooted in tradition.
