The Oot n' Oots are a Canadian kids' folk-rock band from Kelowna, British Columbia. The band consists of brothers Gabe, Matthew, Ari, and Ezra Cipes, along with Ezra's daughter Ruth on lead vocals. Drawing on diverse influences from the history of rock n' roll and popular music, The Oot n' Oots are a band with chops, soul, and swagger. The band produces songs reminiscent of the gentle, whimsical soft rock released by Donovan and early Syd Barrett era Pink Floyd. The band has an interesting philosophy about their music. The Oots feel that by classifying them solely as children's music, it diminishes the impact of their songs, and they point out that everyone was once a child – so their CDs are for current kids, former kids, and future kids. They released their debut album, Songs and Tales from the Great Blue Whale, in 2016, and received a nomination for Children's Artist of the Year at the 2017 Western Canadian Music Awards. They are most noted for their album Ponderosa Bunchgrass and the Golden Rule, which was a Juno Award nominee for Children's Album of the Year at the Juno Awards of 2022. With their family-friendly lyrics, sophisticated musical arrangements, and philosophy that good music transcends age categories, The Oot n' Oots create music that appeals to children and adults alike.
