About

Tim Williams is an American-born, long-time Canadian blues and roots artist who began his career in Southern California coffee houses as a teenager and recorded his first LP for Epic Records in 1968 (Blues Full Circle). After two years of touring and studio work, Tim moved to Canada, where he discovered a lively folk music community and flourishing studio scene. Playing dobro, banjo, mandolin, and harmonica, he became a busy session musician with a full schedule of coffee house and college concert dates. Tim arrived in Vancouver in 1970, coinciding with Canadian Content regulations, when recording studios were being built everywhere. He opened for artists like Taj Mahal, Albert Collins, Mose Allison, and Steve Martin. Interestingly, in 1974, Tim left the city and music business to work as a horse wrangler and ranch hand for several years. His return to full-time performing began at the 1988 Edmonton Folk Festival. He's been a producer/performer on four JUNO-nominated projects and over forty others, plus more than a dozen solo and side group albums. In 2014, the Calgary Blues Music Association awarded him a lifetime achievement award and Hall of Fame induction. With his multi-instrumental skills, decades of experience in the Canadian music scene, and authentic blues and roots sensibilities developed through years of hard work in both music and manual labor, Tim Williams represents the journeyman spirit of Canadian roots music.
