WiL, also known as wiL&Co, is the stage name of William Mimnaugh, a contemporary roots artist who makes his home on Vancouver Island, Canada. Born to two musically inclined parents and raised in Quebec during the 1970s, young Billy Mimnaugh would sit in on his parents' late night 'kitchen sessions' listening to country and folk artists. His family moved to Calgary in 1980, where he grew up immersed in music. In 1992, while sneaking his guitar in to play a cover song as a birthday gift for a buddy, the manager asked if he'd consider a paying gig. For the next ten years, WiL (with one L) packed the bars of Calgary, Alberta. With the help of friends at Six Degrees Music and Production, he recorded and released his 2003 debut album 'Both Hands', selling 6000 copies off stage alone, leading to a showcase at Toronto's Canadian Music Week where he was signed by EMI. At 54, the enigmatic, fiery, silver-bearded front man heads up the west coast indie folk rock outfit known as WiL and Company. The core company consists of singer, songwriter and guitarist William Mimnaugh and long-time drummer Keith Gallant. WiL's music is gaining recognition from songs including 'Roam,' the flagship anthem to Travel Alberta's award-winning media campaign 'Remember To Breathe.' His latest album 'El Paseo' was nominated for Solo Roots Album of The Year at the 2015 Western Canadian Music Awards.
