About

Homeboy Sandman, born Angel Del Villar II on September 24, 1980, is an American rapper from Elmhurst, Queens, New York, United States who has emerged as one of the most original and prolific underground rappers of the late 2000s through the 2020s. Growing up in an intensely multiracial neighborhood in Queens where hip-hop was everywhere, Homeboy Sandman's father is a gifted boxer turned community lawyer, and the young MC gave up a promising career path of his own to rap full time. He recorded and released his first EP, Nourishment, in March 2007, with his debut album, Nourishment (Second Helpings), following in August 2007. At the end of 2008, Homeboy Sandman was named 'Best Hip Hop Act in NYC 2008' by New York Press. In August 2011, he signed with Stones Throw Records and released Subject: Matter EP on January 24, 2012, followed by Chimera EP in April 2012 and his debut full-length LP First of a Living Breed on September 18, 2012. He has released collaborative EPs with Aesop Rock, titled Lice (2015) and Lice Two: Still Buggin' (2016). In 2019, he signed with Mello Music Group, and his tenth studio album, There in Spirit, was released on February 25, 2022. Thanks to his inventive flows, literate lyrics, and dry sense of humor, Homeboy Sandman has built a dedicated following in underground hip-hop.
