Lester Quitzau, born September 21, 1964, is a Canadian folk and blues guitarist from Edmonton, Alberta who has been defying stereotypes in the music world for over 30 years, working as a guitarist, singer, songwriter, composer, and producer. He is a two-time Juno Award winner and recording artist, with a story that began with a solid blues apprenticeship in the funky working-class bars of Edmonton. Learning to play as a child, by fifteen he'd saved enough to buy his first guitar, a Les Paul copy. Exposed to rock & roll by his older brother and later the pure blues of John Lee Hooker, Lester's major blues influence came via the funky Ambassador tavern in downtown Edmonton. His melodious and sensitive approach is driven with power, creating an intersection of blues, roots and jazz that became the signature Quitzau sound. His unique style and fluidity on slide, acoustic and electric guitars, coupled with his well-crafted songs and warm vocals, are the fruits of this musical journey. In addition to his solo albums, he collaborates with the roots trio Tri-Continental with Bill Bourne and Madagascar Slim, and tours and records with his wife, folk-pop singer Mae Moore. Beyond music, Lester is a snowboarding pioneer and organic apple farmer.
