About

The Marc Atkinson Trio is an internationally renowned gypsy jazz group led by one of Canada's finest JUNO-nominated, Western Canadian award-winning musicians Marc Atkinson. Formed in 2000, the Trio has toured North America, England and Europe and has received standing ovations everywhere they perform, from the Montreal Jazz Festival to the Vancouver International Folk Festival to DjangoFest Northwest. Marc Atkinson is backed by Joey Smith on bass and Brett Martens on rhythm guitar. The group has released four albums, with their music characterized as 'melodically captivating, sensually charged and ferociously, technically awe-inspiring.' Marc Atkinson is a multi-instrumentalist/composer/arranger/producer based in Victoria, BC, Canada, and is also co-founder, composer and performer in the acclaimed group The Bills. His compositions blend various influences while maintaining the laidback feel of Canada's West Coast. The Marc Atkinson Trio represents the highest level of gypsy jazz musicianship in Canada, honoring the tradition of Django Reinhardt while bringing their own West Coast sensibility to this European art form. Their performances showcase virtuosic guitar work, tight ensemble playing, and a deep understanding of the gypsy jazz idiom.
