Marcus Mosely is a gospel music legend who was born in Ralls, Texas in pre-civil rights era where his mother raised him immersed in the southern gospel tradition. He moved to Vancouver in 1985 and became a Canadian citizen in 2008. For more than four decades, Marcus has used his voice to entertain and educate people of all ages and backgrounds. He has starred in stage productions of 'Ain't Misbehavin',' 'Black and Gold Revue' (both Arts Club), and 'Show Boat' (Livent). He also created and directed 'It's Time to Sing' (Arts Club), a chronicle of African-American Gospel music from slavery to Carnegie Hall. Marcus was a founding member of the award-winning roots Gospel trio, The Sojourners, who won WCMA Awards for Best Contemporary Christian/Gospel Recording in 2011 and Best Spiritual Album of the Year in 2014 and were nominated for a JUNO in 2010. In 2016, he was inducted into the B.C. Entertainment Hall of Fame. Marcus was named the 2024 Mitchell Award recipient, and in 2020 received the Legacy Award for outstanding achievement in Music from the National Congress of Black Women Foundation. As Artistic Director of the Marcus Mosely Ensemble, he brings authentic gospel sound to audiences across the province. His annual 'Songs of Freedom' celebration, now in its 12th season, has become a community staple.
