About

Michael Jerome Browne is a Canadian blues singer and guitarist most noted as a multiple Juno Award nominee. Born in South Bend, Indiana, at eight years old in his family's adopted home of Montréal, his father started taking him to see foundational artists like Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee. He was later a singer and guitarist in the Stephen Barry Band before launching his own solo career with a self-titled album released in 1998. Browne has been playing acoustic blues for over 40 years, starting as a teenager and developing the fingerpicking style which has become more powerful and intricate over the years. He received Juno nominations for Blues Album of the Year in 2000, 2002, 2016, 2020, and 2024. Michael Jerome Browne is a three-time Canadian Folk Music Award winner, a Maple Blues Award winner (with 32 nominations since 1999), and a Kerrville New Folk Finalist. He is in demand backing up and recording with other artists, most notably Eric Bibb, whose 2017 Grammy nominated CD 'Migration Blues' he co-produced, played and sang on. This musician sings 'the blues' but has also perfected his style of old time, Cajun, country, and swing music. His musical talent ranges from slide guitar to mandolin and fiddle.
