The Nick Maclean Quartet is led by Nick Maclean, a 10x Global Music Award winner, Toronto Independent Music Award winner, and JUNO-nominated artist. The quartet delivers jazz between the two poles of thoughtful introspection and powerhouse conveyance, taking influences from Herbie Hancock's primordial 1960's Blue Note era recordings. It's described as a modern hard-hitting jazz quartet in the vein of Herbie Hancock's primordial quartet from the 60's. The quartet features Brownman Ali on trumpet (heralded as 'Canada's preeminent jazz trumpet player' by New York City's Village Voice), Ben Duff on bass, and Jacob Wutzke on drums, with Ali & Maclean standing shoulder to shoulder with two of Toronto's top-tier rhythm section musicians. Their album 'Convergence' was released on October 27, 2023, representing their sophomore release and a continued modern reimagining of the spirit of Herbie Hancock's primordial 60's quartet, extending many of the ideas from their first award-winning recording 'Rites of Ascension.' The quartet has received positive critical reception and tours extensively across Canada, bringing sophisticated modern jazz to audiences nationwide.
