Kaya Hoax

Kaya Hoax is a Montreal artist who dropped her debut EP 'Baby Gear' in May 2024. She is the winner of the Gamiq for 'Espoir 2025.' Her music lives somewhere between hip hop and experimental pop, drawing inspiration from UK grime, dancehall and punk. Set against a backdrop of magnetic percussions, raw synths, and rumbling 808s, the artist delivers verses that oscillate between fierce declarations of independence and moments of profound vulnerability. Inspired by a women's studies class at Concordia University, she weaves her reaction to reading a frustrating police transcript into her work. 'Baby Gear' was crafted in bedrooms and makeshift studios over a period of three years and is a collection of brash, electronic bangers, the culmination of her complex fascination with maternity. Hoax believes that artists should reflect their times, noting that musicians especially have access to crowds and microphones, so they are in a great position to speak against injustices.
