Fraid Knot is a Folk and Celtic Band from Calgary, AB. Fraid Knot was first formed in Calgary back in 2001, and the band was founded by Byron Eddy, who had moved from Trinity Bay, Newfoundland. The band has been dubbed 'western Canada's hardest working ambassadors of contemporary Celtic music'. They describe themselves as 'calmer than Dropkick Murphy's and edgier than Great Big Sea'. The band embraces elements from Scottish, Irish and Canadian music to serve up their own unique 'knotified' sound. The release of the band's debut album 'Hoist the Sails' placed Fraid Knot firmly on the international stage with media coverage, radio play and album sales extending throughout North America, Europe, Australia and Asia. 2011's follow up recording entitled 'A Pint of Trad' was a nod to the band's roots and their mutual love of traditional Celtic music. The bands live show is still the basis for the Knot's continual success, and the band plays at the Trap & Gill bar every sixth weekend, a venue popular with Maritime Canadians in Calgary.
