About

Brooks & Bowskill is the collaboration of Canadian wife-and-husband musicians Brittany Brooks and Jimmy Bowskill. Their genre-bending sound journeys between folk, country-rock, pop and rock and roll. Jimmy Bowskill is noted as one of Canada's best guitarists and multi-instrumentalists, known for playing lead guitar in The Sheepdogs and as multi-instrumentalist in iconic country rock band Blue Rodeo playing pedal steel guitar, fiddle, mandolin and guitar. Bowskill cut his teeth incredibly young, earning esteemed recognition at the seasoned age of 12 when he became the youngest musician to ever be nominated for a JUNO Award. Since those early days, Jimmy has continued on his musical trajectory, performing with The Jimmy Bowskill Band and Jimmy Bowskill and The Hometown Beauts, touring Europe with Joe Bonamassa and Jeff Beck in 2010, joining The Sheepdogs from 2015 to 2022, and joining Blue Rodeo in 2017. Largely self-taught, he quickly mastered the songs of iconic American bluesmen like Robert Johnson, Son House, Charlie Patton, Muddy Waters, and Howlin' Wolf. Brittany Brooks has been a prolific songwriter, singer and instrumentalist, crafting lyrically evocative songs steeped in wisdom beyond her years. She is notable for her unique and poignant vocal styling reminiscent of female folk-rock pioneers from the '60s like Sandy Denny, Joni Mitchell and country artists like Emmylou Harris and Sylvia Tyson. Their debut album 'Too Many Roads' (release Jan. 2023) gained critical acclaim for the couple's versatile songwriting, expert musicianship and undeniable chemistry as musical collaborators. They released their second album, 'Blissful State of Mind,' and moved their studio, Ganaraska Recording Co, to a nearly 200-year-old farmhouse in the Northumberland Hills.
