The McDades are an Alberta-based folk trio consisting of siblings Shannon Johnson (violin/vocals), Solon McDade (bass/vocals), and Jeremiah McDade (multi-instrument/vocals). The siblings grew up playing Canadian folk music alongside their parents and among artists from around the world. The McDades were performers at an early age, playing folk music with their parents, Terry and Danielle McDade, in the McDade Family Band from 1974–1994. The siblings performed at the Canadian National Exhibition, the Commonwealth Games, and for the British Royal Family. The three formed The McDades in 2001, releasing their debut full-length album "For Reel" the following year. Their sophomore effort "Bloom" (2006) brought them both popular and critical acclaim, picking up a bevy of Juno Awards, Independent Music Awards, and Canadian Folk Music Awards. Musically, The McDades' Celtic rooted music fuses the spontaneity of jazz improvisation and infectious global rhythms. Their performances feature both energetic instrumentals and moving vocals performed in English and French. The Washington Post famously called Jeremiah McDade "The Dizzy Gillespie of the Irish Tin Whistle."
