About

Born Ruffians are a Canadian indie rock band based in Toronto. Officially founded in 2004 in the Georgian Bay town of Midland, Ontario, the band is composed of frontman Luke Lalonde, bassist Mitch DeRosier, drummer Steve Hamelin, and keyboardist Maddy Wilde. Coming together in 2002 as Mornington Drive, the band spent the next two years writing, rehearsing and making their tentative steps into their local rock scene in Midland, Ontario. However the band didn't truly get started until 2004, when they collectively moved to Toronto and self-released their debut album "The Makeshift Yellow Catastrophe". Clever and tuneful Canadian indie rock band fuses hooky guitar jangle with moody, folk-influenced melodies. In 2007, they released the single "Hummingbird," which was included on their first album "Red, Yellow & Blue." Born Ruffians' "Red, Yellow & Blue" was nominated in the 8th Annual Independent Music Awards for Pop/Rock Album of the year. They toured with Franz Ferdinand, Caribou, Peter Bjorn and John, Hot Chip, The Hidden Cameras, Tokyo Police Club (with whom they have also performed songs on stage), and The Honorary Title. The band has released multiple studio albums over the years and continues to be active in the Canadian indie rock scene. Born Ruffians' energetic live performances and their ability to craft catchy, guitar-driven indie rock have made them fixtures of Toronto's music scene.
