Deanna Petcoff is a Toronto-based musician whose contributions to the local indie rock scene go beyond the vulnerability in her music. Since her first show at Lee's Palace in 2012 at only 14 years old, she has flourished into a powerhouse musician who pushes for community and empowerment in her work. Inspired to pick up a guitar and start playing after being drawn to artists like David Bowie, Patti Smith, and Joan Jett, Petcoff embodies the spirit of rock 'n' roll rebellion and authenticity that defined her heroes.
As a teenager, she attended Girls Rock Camp Toronto, where she formed her first band, Pins & Needles, with which she played shows and released music for six years before embarking on her solo career. This formative experience in a supportive, female-focused music community shaped her approach to building inclusive spaces in the music scene. At 25 years old, Deanna Petcoff has quickly emerged as one of Ontario's most exciting up-and-coming indie rockers, known for her confessional and emotionally honest songwriting style that once led her to describe her music as "happy songs about sad things."
Released April 8, 2022, via Royal Mountain Records, "To Hell With You, I Love You" is an enthralling best-foot-forward debut album. The album serves both as a document of the dissolution of a relationship and a showcase for her nuanced, confessional style of songwriting, blending indie rock energy with vulnerable lyricism. Her discography also includes songs like "Terribly True" and "Failing Upwards," continuing her exploration of the messy, complicated emotions that make us human.
