Tristan Thompson, known as Diamond Cafe, was born May 22, 1998, and is a recording artist from Victoria, British Columbia. Heralded by Pitchfork as a 'funk pop prodigy,' Diamond Cafe has become known for blending funk, soul, synth-pop, and R&B into a unique sound. He began dancing as a Michael Jackson impersonator at 12 years old, acting out music videos while busking on the main streets of his hometown. In 2014, as a teen, the Victoria local was picked up by Toronto-based Chatter Records and set on the path of a new radio pop prodigy. However, Thompson eventually moved away from this manufactured pop sound to pursue his own artistic vision. The name Diamond Cafe originated in a dream where Thompson found himself climbing up a sandhill and coming up to a neon cafe with a diamond logo perched on top. While critics cite his style as a 'blend of synth-pop and R&B', Thompson describes his music as 'bathing in a cloud of honey on a very foggy night.' Hailing from Victoria, B.C., Diamond Cafe makes honey-dripped funk, soul and R&B with touches of smooth '70s and '80s synth-pop. Diamond Cafe was recently featured in the 4th and 5th seasons of HBO's 'Ballers,' as well as Gashi's 2020 album '1984' (alongside other notable features including Sting). Days after being named one of Amazon Music Canada's Breakthrough Artists To Watch 2024, Diamond Cafe signed with Warner Music Canada in early 2024.
