About

Honeymoon Suite is a Canadian rock band formed in 1981 in Niagara Falls, Ontario. The band's name was a nod to the fact that Niagara Falls is the unofficial honeymoon capital of the world. The band was originally formed in 1981 by Johnnie Dee (vocals, guitar), Brad Bent (keyboards, vocals), and Mike Lengyell (drums, formerly with The Diodes). Grehan became the band's primary songwriter and penned "New Girl Now," which won them an unsigned band contest put on by Toronto radio station Q107. This success led to a recording contract with WEA Canada.

The band's self-titled debut album, produced by Tom Treumuth, was released in June 1984 and featured four charting hits in Canada: a completely re-recorded version of "New Girl Now," "Burning In Love," "Wave Babies," and "Stay In the Light." The album was an instant success, and with the help of massive airplay and several videos on MTV and MuchMusic, it went on to sell over 300,000 copies in Canada alone, establishing Honeymoon Suite as one of Canada's premier rock acts of the 1980s.

Honeymoon Suite received a Juno Award as Group of the Year in 1986. In October of 1986, they travelled to Tokyo, Japan to perform at the legendary Budokan for the Yamaha World Popular Song Festival, taking home the "Audience 1st Choice Award" and the "Golden Award" for their song "Those Were the Days." In 2019, Johnnie and Derry hooked up with Canadian producer Mike Krompass to begin work on their 9th album at his studio near Nashville, Tennessee, which would be called "Alive," released in February of 2024. Since their debut album, Honeymoon Suite has released a total of 9 studio albums to date, with well over 1 million units sold worldwide.
