Elliott BROOD is a three-piece Canadian alternative country band formed in Toronto in 2002. It consists of Mark Sasso on lead vocals, guitar, banjo, ukulele, harmonica, and kazoo, Casey Laforet on guitar, lead vocals, backing vocals, bass pedals, keys, and ukulele, and Stephen Pitkin on percussion, sampler, and backing vocals. Mark Sasso and Casey Laforet grew up together in Windsor and began playing as a band after moving to Toronto following high school. They played their first show in 2002 with two other musicians at Toronto club Holy Joes. The band's style has been categorized as "death country," "frontier rock," or "revival music." Elliott BROOD appeared on the cover of Exclaim Magazine in 2008 as the new ambassadors of a roots, folk rock, and alt country wave that flourished in Toronto's early aughts. Their album "Days Into Years" earned the band a JUNO Award for "Roots and Traditional Album of the Year" in 2013. Over the course of their career, they have been nominated for a total of five JUNO awards. Their 2008 album "Mountain Meadows" was Polaris Prize short-listed. They received the 2006 Ambassador – Galaxy Rising Star Award: Group, the 2011 CBC Radio 3 Bucky Award for Most Canadian Song "Northern Air," and the 2012 XM/Sirius Indies – Favorite Folk/Roots Artist of the Year. Their song "West End Sky" garnered a Genie Award nomination for Achievement in Music: Original Song. The band has also toured extensively with major acts including Wilco, Blue Rodeo, and The Black Crowes, and performed at festivals across North America, Europe, and Australia.
