About

House of Pain was an American hip hop trio that released three albums in the 1990s and became one of the defining acts of early '90s hip-hop. The group consisted of DJ Lethal, Danny Boy, and Everlast. In 1990, Daniel O'Connor (Danny Boy O'Connor) got together with fellow rapper Erik Schrody (Everlast), who had just released a rap album called "Forever Everlasting" (1990) that did not have much success. Both of Irish American descent, they decided to make a hip hop group with this identity. Schrody brought in his former DJ Leor Dimant (DJ Lethal), who is of Latvian descent, and House of Pain was created. The label they chose was Tommy Boy Records, who credited O'Connor's artwork with having initially caught their attention.

They are best known for their 1992 hit single "Jump Around," which reached number 3 in their native United States of America, number 6 in Ireland, and number 8 in the United Kingdom. The song became a cultural phenomenon and remains a staple at sporting events and parties decades later. Their 1992 self-titled debut album went multi-platinum, mainly due to the success of "Jump Around," establishing them as major players in hip-hop.

Their follow-up effort, 1994's "Same As It Ever Was," went gold despite minimal airplay and no major hits, demonstrating their lasting appeal. The group broke up in 1996. Lead rapper Everlast went on to pursue a solo career and was a member of the supergroup La Coka Nostra, which also featured DJ Lethal. DJ Lethal would later join and find commercial success with the band Limp Bizkit, bringing his production skills to nu-metal. House of Pain reunited briefly in 2010 for a world tour, proving the enduring appeal of their music.
