Jill Barber, born Gillian Grace Barber on February 6, 1980, is a Canadian singer-songwriter originally associated with the folk-pop genre who has performed vocal jazz and pop music on her more recent albums. Barber was born and raised in Port Credit, a neighbourhood in the south-central part of Mississauga, just west of Toronto. Her brother is singer-songwriter Matthew Barber. She studied at Queen's University before pursuing her musical career full time. Jill Barber is a 3x JUNO Award-winning Canadian singer-songwriter. She won the JUNO award for Contemporary Roots Album of the year in 2017 for "The Family Album" with her brother Matthew. Her 2008 album "Chances" led to JUNO Award nominations including New Artist of the Year. Barber won the SiriusXM 2012 Jazz Artist of the Year award and the 2013 Western Canadian Francophone Album of the Year for "Chansons." She won the Female Artist Recording of the Year award for her debut album "Oh Heart" at the 2005 Music Nova Scotia Awards. The album "Chansons," released in 2013, has become Jill's most globally successful record to date, having been streamed over 120 million times, with more than 35 million listens in the past year alone. Barber's evolution from folk-pop to jazz showcases her versatility and vocal range. Her warm, expressive voice and sophisticated arrangements have earned her international recognition and a devoted following across multiple genres.
