Ria MacNutt, known professionally as Ria Mae, was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She is a Canadian singer and songwriter who grew up moving around Halifax, spending hours as a teenager in her bedroom writing songs and teaching herself how to play guitar. She briefly dabbled in construction management out of high school before returning to music, playing in bars and clubs and steadily growing a fan base. Her first release was the EP 'Between the Bad' in 2009. Mae self-released her debut album 'Under Your Skin' in 2011, recorded with Mir members at The Shire Studios in Halifax, which won an East Coast Music Award in 2012. In 2015, she released the single 'Clothes Off,' her first release with Sony Music Canada, which became certified Platinum and was a 2016 Juno Award nominee for Single of the Year. Her self-titled album 'Ria Mae' was released in 2016 and charted on the Canadian Albums Chart. She released 'Stars' in 2019. Ria Mae has become known for her honest songwriting and powerful vocal delivery, establishing herself as an important voice in Canadian pop music.
