Big Little Lions is a folk-pop songwriting duo consisting of Helen Austin from Royston, BC, Canada, and Paul Otten from Springboro, Ohio, USA. The duo first met at a Los Angeles songwriting conference and found common musical ground. The duo was born out of a collaboration that won them a JUNO Award in 2014. Despite living thousands of miles apart—with Helen based on Vancouver Island, BC, and Paul in Cincinnati, OH—they started the band from afar, always writing together by email and working via the internet from the beginning. They have released 7 albums to date, which have garnered them awards and nominations including the CFMA Ensemble of the Year, Independent Music Awards Americana Song of the Year, and John Lennon Songwriting Competition Song of the Year. Both are hugely prolific songwriters—their music has been placed in hundreds of movie trailers, ads, network TV shows, and on MTV. Their infectious folk-pop songs are jam-packed with emotion and tight harmonies that sound like the product of two people working side-by-side instead of living in different countries. Big Little Lions' music is characterized by uplifting melodies, thoughtful lyrics, and seamless vocal harmonies that blend folk, pop, and Americana influences. Their ability to create compelling music despite the distance between them is a testament to their strong creative partnership and shared musical vision. They continue to tour and release new music, building a devoted following with their warm, accessible sound.
