Northern Beauties

Northern Beauties is the creation of musical friends Todd Stewart and Craig Aikman, both of whom play guitar and sing. The harmonies of vocalists Todd Stewart and Craig Aikman create a beautiful blend. Craig and Todd were at the 2012 Calgary Folk Festival watching the duo Whitehorse perform, which is when Todd pitched the idea to Craig of a western-folk act with two vocalists. The group actually started as a side project in the fall of 2012. One year later, they pulled together the full band with Erik, Aaron, and Charlie to record an EP with six tracks. The six-piece band includes: Erik Allen on drums, Aaron Schlopp on bass, Charlie Hase on pedal steel guitar, and violinist Jonathan Lewis. The band was honored with a 2016 Western Canadian Music Award for Roots Group/Duo of the Year and a pair of Calgary Music Award nominations for Singer/Songwriter of the year and the award for Roots/Folk recording of the year. Wielding an unmistakable brand of Western Folk, Calgary Alberta's Northern Beauties have carved their name into the western Canadian musical landscape. The band's music is characterized by tight harmonies, strong songwriting, and a sound that celebrates their Alberta roots while incorporating contemporary folk and Americana influences. Their engaging live performances and authentic approach to western folk music have earned them a devoted following across western Canada.
