Ingrid Jensen is a JUNO Award-winning Canadian jazz trumpet player, born January 12, 1966, and raised in Nanaimo, British Columbia. She received a scholarship to Berklee College of Music in Boston, graduating in 1989. After graduation, she toured with the Vienna Art Orchestra and taught at the Bruckner Conservatory in Austria at age 25, before returning to the U.S. in 1994 to join the DIVA Big Band. Settling in New York City, Jensen joined the innovative jazz orchestras of Maria Schneider from 1994 to 2012 and Darcy James Argue from 2002 to present. Her debut album "Vernal Fields" earned her a JUNO Award for Best Mainstream Artist of the Year in 1995. She won first place at the prestigious Carmine Caruso International Jazz Trumpet Solo Competition in 1995. Jensen was hailed by the JJA as 2019's Trumpeter of the Year and is consistently listed in the top 5 in the Trumpet category of the DownBeat critics poll. She is prominently featured on the Grammy Award-winning "Mosaic Project," led by drummer Terri-Lyne Carrington. Jensen currently teaches at the Berklee College of Music and is also a member of the all-female jazz supergroup ARTEMIS. Her playing is characterized by technical brilliance, lyrical expression, and a commitment to both traditional jazz values and contemporary innovation. Throughout her career, Jensen has established herself as one of North America's premier jazz trumpeters, inspiring a new generation of musicians while maintaining her position at the forefront of creative jazz.
