About

Twin Flames was a Canadian folk music duo based in Quebec, formed in 2015. Jaaji (Inuk from Nunavik and Mohawk from Kahnawake) and Chelsey June (of Settler and Indigenous heritage, from Ottawa/Gatineau) left careers in policing and government to pursue music full-time. Jaaji grew up in a humble fly-in community called Quaqtaq in Northern Nunavik, QC, where his grandparents raised him in the traditional ways of the Inuit. Before his music career, Jaaji served as a police officer for 12 years in Quaqtaq, QC and Kuujjuaq. In 2014, Jaaji decided to commit to music full-time, and with his first album Nunaga, he won Indigenous Language Album of the Year at the 2015 Indigenous Music Awards. Chelsey June, a Settler with Indigenous heritage (Anishinaabe Algonquin, Métis, and Cree), is passionate about promoting mental well-being. Chelsey June worked for the Canadian government for ten years before entering the music business. Prior to joining forces as Twin Flames, Chelsey June and Jaaji had already established successful individual music careers. Their paths crossed on the set of APTN's Talent Autochtones Musical. Since forming in 2014, Twin Flames earned over 50 music awards and nominations, including four Canadian Folk Music Awards, three Native American Music Awards, and the 2022 and 2025 Capital Music Award for Group of the Year. In 2019, Twin Flames released the song Human, chosen by UNESCO as the official song to celebrate the International Year of Indigenous Languages. They released albums including Signal Fire in 2017, Omen in 2020, and their final LP, Hugging the Cactus, in 2024. In August 2025, the duo announced that they were separating.
