About

Russell deCarle was born on May 31, 1954, and became known as the singer and bassist of the acclaimed Canadian country band Prairie Oyster. Prairie Oyster was formed in King City, Ontario, in 1974 by Russell deCarle on vocals and Keith Glass on guitar, formerly of the bluegrass group King City Slickers. deCarle had two stints with Prairie Oyster, first from 1974 to 1978, and again for a more commercially successful second run from 1982 to 1996. The band achieved remarkable success: Prairie Oyster was inducted into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame in 2008. His Oyster years were rewarded with six Juno Awards, more than a dozen Canadian Country Music Awards and enough gold and platinum records and number one singles to fill a living room wall. They have four number one country singles in Canada, with an additional 12 singles reaching the Canadian Country Top 10. Russell deCarle currently tours and records with his solo group The Russell deCarle Trio, which play an eclectic mix of blues, jazz, country & western, Latin music, R&B and western swing. As a songwriter deCarle has also been honoured with two SOCAN Song of the Year Awards. Once in 1994, for Prairie Oyster's first number one single Such A Lonely One, and then again in 2008 for One Way Track. Russell deCarle's warm vocals, exceptional musicianship, and versatile style have made him a beloved figure in Canadian country music, both as part of Prairie Oyster and as a solo artist.
