Mo Kenney, born in 1990, is a Canadian singer/songwriter based in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Catching the ear of noted Canadian rocker Joel Plaskett while still in school, Kenney released their first album in 2012, which Plaskett produced. They are known for their lyrical prowess and engaging stage presence. A unique singer-songwriter, Mo's music has been described as both folk and pop. In July 2013, Kenney's song "Sucker" won the SOCAN Songwriting Prize for the best song by an independent Canadian musician. Kenney's willingness to unflinchingly pursue their artistic impulses on their own terms has resulted in numerous accolades over the past decade, including a 2013 SOCAN Songwriting Prize for "Sucker," a nomination for the 2016 Adult Alternative Album of the Year JUNO for "In My Dreams," and too many East Coast Music Awards and Nova Scotia Music Awards to count. Also in 2013, Kenney won three Music Nova Scotia awards: pop recording of the year, female artist of the year, and new artist recording of the year. They received a similar designation, new/emerging artist of the year, at the Canadian Folk Music Awards. The awards for their debut album continued into 2014, when Mo Kenney picked up four ECMA award nominations, winning the award for pop recording of the year. On their fifth studio album "From Nowhere," Mo Kenney embraces the textures of ambiguity and the rich blur of being, failing, and becoming. Mo Kenney's introspective songwriting, distinctive voice, and fearless artistic evolution have made them one of Atlantic Canada's most respected independent artists.
