About

Scenic Route to Alaska is a Canadian folk-indie trio consisting of Trevor Mann on lead vocals and guitar, drummer Shea Connor, and bassist Murray Wood, who have known each other since they were children and grew up in Riverdale, Edmonton's hippiest neighbourhood. The trio of childhood best friends has been a force in Canada's music scene since 2011. Mann explains that when they were younger, they used to see a highway sign between Jasper and Hinton that said Scenic Route to Alaska, pointing North, which he thought was such a strange and beautiful thing that evoked imagery and mystery. In 2010, the three close friends adopted the Scenic Route to Alaska moniker and their original and organic take on folk-inspired indie pop was seeded. They started practicing together on R&B and rock 'n roll covers for wedding gigs and hall shows, and before long were in high demand as a session band for local artists. The band is best known for slower, mellower indie-folk songs, often described as prairie indie. With six albums under their belt, the band released their seventh album, Lasts Forever, in April 2024. Their track Love Keeps secured a SOCAN number one distinction on CBC Radio 2 charts in 2016, and they won a Western Canadian Music Award for Rock Group of the Year in 2018. Scenic Route to Alaska's heartfelt lyrics, lush harmonies, and atmospheric production have made them one of Edmonton's most beloved musical exports, known for their ability to capture the essence of prairie life in song.
