Barbra Lica is a JUNO-nominated Canadian jazz singer, songwriter, and producer based in Toronto. Born in Toronto, Ontario, she grew up in a musical family, discovering jazz at the age of six. She studied at the University of Toronto, receiving a BA in Music along with a major in Human Biology. In 2012, Lica released her debut album "That's What I Do," which opened at #1 on iTunes Canada's jazz chart and was released the following year in Japan by Universal Records. She is a seasoned act on the North American club and festival circuits, having performed everywhere from New York City's legendary Birdland to Toronto's prestigious Koerner Hall, and has headlined festivals around the world including Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, Tokyo International Jazz Festival, Port-au-Prince International Jazz Festival, and Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival. In November 2013, Barbra competed in and placed first runner-up in the Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition in New Jersey, with judges including Al Jarreau, Gretchen Parlato, and Janis Siegel of The Manhattan Transfer. Lica received her first JUNO Award nomination in 2017 for "I'm Still Learning" under the category Vocal Jazz Album of the Year. The album single "The Ghost of Me" took home the 2023 Ontario Folk Music Awards CMRRA Song of the Year prize. More recently, "Imposter Syndrome" garnered her two 2024 Canadian Folk Music Awards nominations for Single of the Year ("In 40 Years") and Solo Artist of the Year. She has been called one of Canada's Top 5 Female Jazz Singers by CBC Radio 2 host Tim Tamashiro.
