Dan Gaucher is a JUNO Award-winning Canadian jazz drummer known for his work in Vancouver's jazz and improvised music scene. Dan Gaucher was part of The October Trio, which was formed in late 2004 when its members were in Vancouver's Capilano College Jazz Studies program, alongside Evan Arntzen on saxophones and bassist Josh Cole. Dan Gaucher has been involved with several notable groups: October Trio, SICK BOSS, Fond of Tigers, and Destroyer. Various projects include performances as a tribute to Thelonious Monk. The October Trio's album "Day In" was nominated for a 2007 Western Canadian Music Award for Outstanding Jazz Recording, and the group performed at multiple international jazz festivals including Portland, Vancouver, Calgary, and Edmonton in 2007. In his own work, Gaucher phases freely between rigorous composition and celestial improvisation, and he's described as one of Vancouver's most agile and inquisitive improvisers. Known for his versatility and creative approach to percussion, Gaucher seamlessly moves between jazz, experimental, and indie rock contexts. His work with Destroyer, the indie rock project led by Dan Bejar, demonstrates his ability to bring jazz sensibilities to alternative music. As a bandleader and collaborator, Gaucher continues to push the boundaries of contemporary jazz drumming, exploring the intersections between composition, improvisation, and various musical genres in Vancouver's vibrant creative music community.
