About

Eliana Cuevas is a Canadian jazz singer whose music blends jazz with Latin music. Born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela, she moved to Canada in 1996 and is currently based in Toronto, Ontario. Born to a musical family in Venezuela, Cuevas grew up to the sounds of salsa, joropo, pop, and Brazilian music, writing her first song by the age of 9. After moving to Toronto, she boldly began using a fake ID to play the city's top jazz clubs despite being underage. Through years of touring around the world, across Canada, and collaborating with JUNO and Grammy Award-winning performers, Eliana Cuevas has grown into an accomplished singer-songwriter and bandleader with unlimited colors in her compositional and lyrical palette. She has performed with JUNO-winning Latin artists Alex Cuba, Jesse Cook, and Jane Bunnett. Eliana has released 6 albums of original music to this date: "Cohesión" (2001), "Ventura" (2004), "Vidas" (2007), "Espejo" (2013), "Golpes y Flores" (2017), "El Curruchá" (2021), and most recently "Seré Libre" (2023). Among her honors are the Canadian National Jazz Award for Latin Jazz Artist of the Year, two Toronto Independent Music Awards for Best World Music Artist, an Independent Music Award for Best Latin Album, and a World Solo Artist of the Year Award at the Canadian Folk Music Awards. She is most noted for her album "Golpes y Flores," for which she won the Canadian Folk Music Award for World Solo Artist of the Year at the 14th Canadian Folk Music Awards in 2018.
